Spring Dinner Results

This year’s spring dinner was an absolute success with over 60 guests in attendance. Our guest Tom McDermott filled us in on GTRI’s big initiatives and new prominence in the global academic and research environments. We also awarded our four scholarships for the year and appointed new officers. Some photos:

Team Buzz 2011 was a great experience this year thanks to the arrangements by Joe Ullo through HandsOn Jax. We had 11 alumni & friends that participated between 9 AM & 1 PM and the zoo was very complimentary of our work ethic/positive attitude while on site. Our activities for the day were within the animal enrichment area including the following:

  • Painting paper mache toys for jaguars & panthers
  • Creating cheerios rings, peanut butter pine cones, & swing toys for parrots, eagles, & owls
  • Building wreaths out of grape vines for the gorillas
  • Tying assorted bird feathers together to make hanging toys for the big cats
  • Mixing vegetables & fruits together to make frozen treats for the otters
  • Preparing banana-oatmeal-cinnamon “meatballs” for more frozen treats

After our work was complete, the zoo staff escorted our group over to the Africa exhibit to help feed the bongos, warthog, and ostrich. Once the food ran out, all volunteers were welcome to stay in the park as long as they wished for the rest of the day.

A great time was had by all and we’ve already been invited to come back again soon. Some photos:
